Dear All,

I wanted to thank all the people who came to the 10 minute presentation of Morbid Porn as a part of ‘Short and Sweet’ this year. It was great to see many of you there and thanks so much for your feedback.

Our hard work seems to have paid off as we were awarded the Full Tilt Development Prize (as was Tinsel Town) while also picking up a surprise runner up Best Female Actor for Tamara and a nomination for Best Direction by Nancy Black. Hope you will come along and see the full show next year.

The Grimstones – An Artist’s Journal

Melbourne puppeteer Asphyxia has published a book about the making of her show, The Grimstones  – A Gothic Fairytale.   The book, The Grimstones – An Artist’s Journal, records the process of making from the first sparks of inspiration, the concept sketches and story ideas, through to making the marionettes and sets, and creating a theatrical production for performance.  Available  from Asphyxia’s website: www.asphyxia.com.au. Dates and venues for upcoming performances of the Grimstones around Australia are also listed there.

Gary Friedman Productions: Puppetry for Film and TV Course:
Taking place at Wesley Institute for the Arts in Drummoyne every Wednesday evening from 28 January to 18 March from 6 to 9pm, this course will cover basic design and building puppets for the camera, performing and improvisational skills, filming short scenarios and basic directing for the camera. Each participant will receive a DVD of their work for their showreels at the end of the course.

The full fee is $749, including materials for puppet building, less $49 early bird discount.

Brisbane Festival Fringe call for artists

Brisbane Festival’s Under The Radar fringe program is currently seeking applications from artists and new works in the following areas: plays, burlesque, physical theatre, street theatre, theatre of image, dance theatre, musical theatre| cabaret, junkyard, circus and public performance - all welcome to apply.
Applications close at 5pm Monday 16 February. Details at their website. Brisbane Festival will be held from 18 September to 3 October.
